Things to do in Oropesa del Mar in winter
Walk or cycle the Vía Verde del Mar
It's the winter outing par excellence: almost 6 km along the sea, from La Concha beach to Benicàssim, on foot or by bike, and almost empty at this time of year. At 15 or 16 degrees at midday you can walk without getting hot, which never happens in August. The full route, with its towers, the tunnel and the coves, is in our guide to the Vía Verde del Mar.
Climb up to the castle and wander through the old town
The castle of Oropesa is free to enter and in winter it opens Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 to 20:00 (municipal opening hours checked in September 2026). From the top you can see the whole coast. On the way down you pass through the old town, home to the Oropesa del Mar Museum and the Playing Card Museum (Museo del Naipe), with a collection of more than five thousand decks. The museums change their hours with the season, so it's best to call ahead.
The coves, all to yourself
Hardly anyone swims in winter, but the beaches and coves of Oropesa are enjoyed in a different way: walks along the shore at La Concha, la Renegà with the swell rolling in, and free parking where in August there isn't a space to be found.
See where it all began: Orpesa la Vella
The archaeological site of Orpesa la Vella is right next to the Vía Verde. You can see it the same morning.
Day trips in the area
By car there are inland and coastal villages for a day out. You'll find ideas in villages near Marina d'Or, and the rest of the year's plans in things to do in Oropesa del Mar.

Can you live in Oropesa del Mar all year round?
Yes. In winter the town belongs to the people who live here: everyday services keep running, you can park without searching and the pace is different.
