Buying a beachfront apartment: Spain as the preferred destination

Por Alejandro Castillo

Idealista, drawing on data from moverdb.com – a leading website in the field of international removals – published a study in June 2023 highlighting how Spain has become the preferred destination for international property investors.

In the list of most-searched terms across 34 countries, ‘house for sale in Spain’ features prominently, particularly amongst European countries.

Read on if you’d like to find out more about buying an apartment by the beach in Spain.

A Place in the Sun

The popularity of this search term brings to mind a common phrase in the English-speaking world: ‘a place in the sun’.

This term, which also lends its name to a popular television series, refers to the search for a property in a country where one can enjoy the sun for most of the year.

This attraction to the sun and the warm climate has been one of the keys to the TV programme’s success; it is now in its 19th series and has its own property sales platform.

The programme’s website offers an investment guide for those interested in investing in property in Spain. This guide includes information on searching for properties, Spanish property laws and financing options. Everything you need to answer your questions if you’re planning to buy an apartment by the beach.

Buying a beachfront apartment in Spain

Of course, it’s important to bear in mind that the climate in Spain varies from one region to another. That’s why, when looking for a property, investors often opt for the coastal regions in the east of the country.

For example, the north of the Valencian Community is known for its mild winter climate and its almost endless days of sunshine (an essential factor when buying an apartment by the beach), with over 300 sunny days a year.

This climate, combined with an affordable cost of living and reasonable property prices, makes Spain an extremely attractive destination for foreign investors. This trend is reflected in the fact that countries such as Slovenia, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland, amongst others, are investing increasingly in the Spanish property market.

The newspaper *The Wall Street Journal* has also reported an increase in the number of US investors in Spain. This growth has been attributed to several factors, including favourable changes in the dollar exchange rate, an increase in the number of flights between Spain and the United States, and the appeal of the ‘Spanish lifestyle’.

Jaime Malet, head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain, known as AmChamSpain, has highlighted Spain’s importance on the global stage. According to Malet, Spain is not only on the board but is in a position to dominate the game. He suggests that, to strengthen its position, the Iberian Peninsula needs to establish itself as a magnet for European and US capital.

The study by Moverdb.com also highlights that citizens from the North African coast are showing a growing interest in investing in property in Spain. Countries such as Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt are showing a growing interest in the Spanish property market.

In short, thanks to international investment and tourism, Spain received over 17,000 million euros in 2022.

With its sunny climate, relaxed lifestyle and affordable property prices, it’s no wonder that Spain has become the favourite destination for international property investors looking to buy an apartment by the beach.

If the first thing on your mind every morning when you wake up is buying an apartment by the beach, look no further. At Inseryal by Marina d’Or, we have over 40 years’ experience in property construction and development.

We were pioneers in Spain in introducing a new concept: the sale of new, fully equipped, furnished and decorated apartments by the sea, such as our Ciudad Jardín apartments, situated on the Mediterranean coast.

At Ciudad Jardín, you’ll find new 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments, with spacious terraces from which to enjoy views of the sea and the Oropesa mountains (depending on the type of apartment).

The Ciudad Jardín buildings are situated right on the beachfront, on the border between Oropesa del Mar and Cabanes, surrounded by nature, leisure facilities and amenities. Right on your doorstep is Torre la Sal beach, recognised as one of the best in Europe, the Prat de Cabanes – Torreblanca Nature Reserve – a protected natural area since 1994 – and the famous Marina d’Or Holiday Resort, a town built around Europe’s largest seawater spa, where you’ll also find leisure parks, an amusement park, a water park, 500,000 m² of green spaces, beaches, entertainment, live shows, parades with floats…

If you’d like your own private garden area, the ‘Sol y Mar’ apartments are now on sale, having gone on the market just this week. Here you’ll find ground-floor apartments (with their own garden area of up to 40 m²) and first-floor apartments, as well as two-storey duplexes spanning the full height of the building.

It is a slightly smaller, more family-oriented residential complex than the Ciudad Jardín blocks and is also very close to the beach.
