A few weeks ago, on 29 October, the Valencian Community made the news due to the devastation caused by a DANA (Isolated High-Level Low-Pressure System), which mainly affected the south of the province of Valencia.

Images of flooded streets and property damage have caused concern, particularly amongst those considering investing in or moving to this region. However, it is crucial to clarify one aspect that is overlooked in many headlines: Castellón, specifically areas such as Oropesa del Mar, was not affected and has never experienced flooding of this magnitude in its entire history.

The DANA occurred more than 100 kilometres away from our developments, in a different geographical area with its own climatic conditions. This fact must be emphasised when discussing safety and risks in the Valencian Community.

Castellón – a non-flood-prone area!

Unlike the south of Valencia, Castellón has geographical and urban characteristics that make it a naturally flood-safe area.

This is supported not only by historical observations but also by official certifications. In fact, the entire region where our developments are located has been declared a NON-FLOOD ZONE.

The terrain, combined with sound urban planning, has ensured that towns such asOropesa del Mar, remain free from the risks posed by extreme weather events.

Furthermore, these characteristics are not a recent development, but are reflected in decades of climatic stability.

Key differences between Valencia and Castellón during the DANA

It is natural for news about the DANA to cause concern, but it is important to distinguish between the realities in the different provinces. Whilst Valencia suffered torrential rain that caused rivers to burst their banks and severely affected infrastructure, Castellón remained unaffected by this extreme weather event.

Never in history have such severe floods been recorded in Castellón as those seen in Valencia! This fact, which has been repeatedly observed and documented, offers peace of mind to those looking to invest or live in this area.

It is important to emphasise that Castellón is geographically better protected from such events and has infrastructure designed to cope with heavy rainfall, minimising the risk of flooding and facilitating transport and communications.

Supporting safety: Oropesa del Mar and its climate record

In coastal towns such as Oropesa del Mar, safety is a key consideration. The surrounding areas boast modern infrastructure designed to maximise protection against any adverse weather events.

Beyond the infrastructure, the climate record speaks for itself: Oropesa del Mar has never suffered severe flooding or significant disruptions caused by weather events.

During this DANA episode, Oropesa del Mar and its surroundings have maintained stable weather conditions. Rainfall, where it has occurred, has been moderate and has not caused any notable incidents. This has not only ensured the safety of residents, but also the peace of mind of visitors and tourists enjoying the Mediterranean coast.

This makes the region an ideal choice for those who value stability and safety. Furthermore, its appeal as a tourist destination, combined with these advantages, reinforces its reputation as a reliable destination both for living and for investment.

Technical Data: Official maps certifying the non-flood-prone zone

For those seeking technical backing, the National Flood Zone Mapping System (SIG) is an invaluable tool. This official portal provides detailed information on each area’s susceptibility to flooding.

According to the available data, our developments in Castellón are located in areas classified as non-flood-prone.
