Castellón Airport plans to operate 1,500 scheduled flights, offering 250,000 seats, during the 2023 summer season, which runs from late March to late October.
The airport will offer the highest number of scheduled routes in its history – a total of 11 – allowing for up to 30 weekly flights.
Rebeca Torró, the Regional Minister for Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, has highlighted the significant boost this will give to commercial traffic during the seven months of the summer season. Airlines will operate the highest number of scheduled flights in the airport’s history, offering a record number of seats.
More flights in 2023
The 250,000 seats available for flights to and from Castellón represent a 78 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.
Furthermore, the 1,500 scheduled flights double last year’s figure and almost double the maximum number of weekly flights, rising from 17 to 30.
This increase in flight capacity will significantly boost Castellón’s air connectivity and provide a boost to the province’s tourism sector, according to Rebeca Torró. The various routes will enable thousands of travellers to arrive via the airport.
During this year’s summer season, three new scheduled routes will be launched. The first connection to Düsseldorf-Weeze, operated by Ryanair, will commence next Sunday, 26 March, with two weekly flights.
The new route to Porto, also operated by Ryanair, will begin on 28 March with two flights a week. And from 3 June, Wizz Air will operate the route to Rome, also with two flights a week.
As for the summer routes from previous years, the Budapest route (Wizz Air) will resume on 29 March, the Katowice route (Wizz Air) on 27 April and the Seville route (Air Nostrum) on 1 June.
This airport has been in regular operation since 2015 and handled 150,000 passengers in 2022.
In recent years, the airport’s management has consistently focused on developing its logistics, business, educational and cultural activities. This cultural aspect is represented by the ‘Zona 30’ gallery, an annex to the Vicente Aguilera Cerni Museum of Contemporary Art (MACVAC) in Vilafamés.
This cultural project makes use of both the dedicated gallery and other random spaces within the passenger terminal, with the aim of bringing art into moments not typically associated with it, such as whilst waiting for a flight.
